Homemade Heart-Shaped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
These Homemade Heart-Shaped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are the cutest little Valentine’s Day treat and super easy to make! In fact, my kids liked them better than the real thing!
No need to stop at the store for your chocolate fix. These homemade Reese’s peanut butter cups are easy to make and delicious. I made them into heart-shaped peanut butter cups for Valentine’s Day, but you can also make them in mini cupcake liners.
Ingredients You’ll Need for This Recipe
It’s likely you have a lot of these ingredients on-hand and ready to go to make these homemade Reese’s peanut butter cups.
- Peanut butter – I used Skippy smooth
- Unsalted butter
- Powdered sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Salt
- Chocolate – I used dark chocolate chips, but you can also use semi-sweet or milk
How to Make Homemade Heart-Shaped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
- Make the filling – to start, you’ll beat the butter and peanut butter together until smooth. Next, add the powdered sugar, vanilla and salt. Mix until combined. You’ll notice the mixture resembles cookie dough.
- Freeze the filling – on a parchment lined baking sheet, roll out the peanut butter filling, about ½ inch thick. Freeze the filling for about 20 to 30 minutes. The colder the filling, the easier it will be to dip into chocolate
- Melt the chocolate – in a microwave safe bowl or over a double boiler, melt the chocolate.
- Cut out the hearts – once the filling is frozen, cut out the mini hearts. You’ll find mini heart cookie cutters at any local craft store.
- Dip the filling – dip each heart into the chocolate and shake off the excess chocolate. If desired, sprinkle coarse salt on top.
- Let cool – let the chocolates cool and set completely before serving.
Can this recipe be used to make Reese’s peanut butter cups in the original candy shape?
Absolutely! If you don’t want to take the extra time to roll out, freeze, and cut the hearts, you can easily make this recipe with mini cupcake tins.
Make sure to line the mini cupcake tins with mini cupcake liners. Pour about 2 to 3 teaspoons melted chocolate in each cupcake liner. Allow the chocolate to set a little. Add a teaspoon or two of the peanut butter filling and cover with another 2 to 3 tablespoons melted chocolate.
