Step 4: Once your bag is folded over the edge of your cup, use a spatula to spoon frosting into the piping bag. Be sure to only fill the bag about two-thirds of the way so you have room to close the bag.how to fill a piping bag. www.cakebycourtney.com

Step 5: Once your bag is filled with buttercream, grab the edge of the piping bag and pull it up, over the glass. Next, shake the bag one or two times to get the frosting to fall toward the very bottom of the bag.step by step guide on filling a piping bag. www.cakebycourtney.com

Step 6: Next, twist the top of the piping bag tightly.tips and tricks for filling a piping bag. www.cakebycourtney.com

Step 7: Lastly, when you’re piping, make sure to keep one hand around the top of the bag with a tight grip. This will keep the frosting from spilling out. tip tuesday: how to fill a piping bag. www.cakebycourtney.com

I recommend holding the piping bag with your thumb to secure the twist. And then your fingers can apply pressure to release the frosting from the bag.how to fill a piping bag. www.cakebycourtney.com

  1. I have never been neat when filling a bag with frosting. I have tried many times. So when I saw this technique, I decided I want to try it the next time I decorate a cake. Have not yet tried it.

Have you ever tried filling your bag by inserting frosting spread out on wax paper, the wax paper rolled with frosting inside and the upper edge twisted closed. Then it is inserted into bag with open end down.
I saw this used when exploring Russian decorating tips. They use this when they want the flower’s middle to have a different color or when they want petals perhaps with 2 colors.

Another question is how to use bag fasteners. Bought them probably on Amazon. Purple circle elastic with piece attached to side. I cannot figure out how they are fastened around the bag top. Again another effort to keep things neat.
    Thank you

  2. I’m sure you’ve heard of this but what I do is lay a piece of Saran Wrap flat on the counter. Then apply frosting with a spatula onto the plastic wrap until I have a good amount to fit in my piping bag while still being able to twist and close. Then I wrap the frosting (elongated shape like a burrito) by twisting the ends (like you would a card candy). Then cut one end off and insert this end first in your piping bag. It makes for better clean up or even makes it possible to change colors/flavors using the same piping bag.

  3. I don’t even understand how I finished up right here, however I assumed this post was great. I do not recognize who you’re however certainly you are going to a well-known blogger should you are not already. Cheers!|

  4. What’s the trick to getting the right temperature and consistency for piping? It’s like a dream when i’m frosting, but when i start piping it’s a mess.

(I’ve been blaming my husband for not having the ac on high enough at night , but i know that’s not it 😂)
